Outlook 2016 on Windows 10 displays 0x800cce05 when attempting to add IMAP account. This can be caused by a previously version of Office, Office 365 installation or conflict with Windows 10.
To resolve right click the Start button, select Command Prompt (Admin) and enter:
sfc /scannow
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.
Thank you so much for this simple solution. There are so many, but yours is definitely the best and worked first time. Doh, I don't know why I didn't try that to begin with, probably because mine was a brand spanking new PC with Office 365 and Win 10. The last thing you expect is this type of issue.
